Kohima (Nagaland) [India], August 29 (ANI): Day two of the 5th session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly discussed on matters of urgent public importance under Rule 54 pertaining to the Ceasefire and Law and Order situation in the State.
MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, who is also the Leader of the NPF Legislature Party said Ceasefire has become a license to threaten and intimidate, Kidnapping, Extortion, Multiple Taxation and Killing.
“All such Nefarious activities are happening right in-front of our eyes under the guise of the ceasefire, which includes mushrooming or groups, faction”, he said
He said that Nagas would be better off without Ceasefire and questioned,” For how long can we as mandated Leaders remain a silent Spectator and for how many times shall we allow them to challenge the Rule Of Law”?
He said that it is time for the state to seriously ponder as to whether the Ceasefire should be extended or not if at all ceasefire needs to be extended.
“The Ceasefire Ground rules need to be reviewed immediately so that the current ground situation and the measures to control the violations can be incorporated and the Rule of Law be enforced “, Azo said.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton also holds the charge of Home and Border.
He said that the state Government has written to the Chairman, of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group/ Ceasefire Supervisory Board, this month highlighting the instances of ceasefire violations and seeking action on the same.
“Police force has been making regular arrests in respect of extortion cases by the factions” he added.
He said that the crime situation in the state is under control with the police registering a good number of cases under different sections of the law.
With respect to the Extension of Ceasefire, Patton reminded the House that for the NSCN-R, NSCN-KN, NSCN-K (Khango) & NSCN-K (Nikki) factions, the Government of India extended the Ceasefire of NSCN-R and NSCN-KN for a period of one year from 28th April 2024 till 27th April 2025. It was also extended for NSCN-K (Khango) faction for a period of 1 (one) year from 18th April 2024 to 17h April 2025 and for NSCN-K (Nikki) group for a period of one year from 8th September 2023 till 7th September 2024.
