Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 4 (ANI): The Maharashtra Police have filed a chargesheet in the hit-and-run accident case that occurred in Worli, Mumbai, on Friday, according to the authorities.
The police have located the eyewitness, a taxi driver, whose testimony will be recorded before the Metropolitan Magistrate.
So far, statements from 38 witnesses have been recorded in the case. The police have included circumstantial evidence suggesting the main accused, Mihir Shah, had consumed alcohol, despite his medical report returning negative. The chargesheet runs to 716 pages.
Based on the circumstantial evidence that Shah was intoxicated at the time of the incident, the police have invoked Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police officials confirmed that, along with the accident vehicle’s registration, the driving licences of the accused, Mihir Shah and Rajrishi Bidawat, have been cancelled.
Shah was arrested on July 9 for allegedly hitting a couple on a two-wheeler, resulting in the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa in the early hours of July 7. Her husband, Pradeep Liladhar Nakhwa, sustained injuries in the crash.
Earlier, police had stated that Shah admitted to driving the luxury car under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred.
Following the incident, Shah allegedly swapped seats with his driver, took an autorickshaw from the Kala Nagar area in Bandra East, and went to a friend’s residence in Goregaon. He changed his location multiple times before being arrested at a resort in Thane. (ANI)
