Patiala (Punjab) [India], December 22 (ANI): Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday expressed concern over the building collapse incident in Mohali, stating that it is worrying that the Punjab government lacks the necessary resources to handle such incidents.
He also said that the DC of Mohali and Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) officials should be held responsible for the incident and a case should be registered against him.
Speaking to ANI, Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa says, “It is a matter of concern that the Punjab government does not have the required resources to tackle these kinds of incidents. Punjab CM should have arrived at the spot. The DC of Mohali and Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) officials should be held responsible for the incident. A case should be registered against Mohali DC.”
The death toll in the Mohali building collapse incident has risen to two following the recovery of another body from the site on Sunday.
Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek told ANI, “The body of a boy named Abhishek has been recovered. Two floors of the building have been cleared and work is going on the rest of the floors. A total of two bodies have been recovered so far.”
Mohali Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Viraj S Tidke told ANI, “An unfortunate incident happened yesterday in Mohali and a three-storey building collapsed. Rescue work has been going on in full swing since yesterday evening. Yesterday we recovered the body of a woman named Drishti and this morning we recovered the body of a man named Abhishek. I appeal to the public to cooperate with the police administration.”
The multi-storey under-construction building collapsed in Punjab’s Mohali on Saturday.
Earlier a victim of the incident, Drishti Verma succumbed to injuries. “She was rescued from the debris by the National Disaster Management Force (NDRF) in critical condition. She was rushed to Sohana Hospital,” said Viraj S Tidke, officiating Deputy Commissioner.
Rescue operations by the personnel of the Indian Army and NDRF continued on Sunday a day after a multi-storey under-construction building collapsed in Punjab’s Mohali.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) second in Command, Deepak Talwar said, “Four teams of NDRF are carrying out the rescue operations.”
Meanwhile, an FIR was registered against the owners of the building.
Speaking to ANI, DSP Harsimran Singh Bal said, “The clearance operations are ongoing. We have registered the FIR against the owners of the building.”
On Saturday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in a post on X said, “Received sad news of an accident of a multi-storey building near Sohana in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali). Full administration and other rescue operations teams are deployed at the spot. I am in constant touch with the administration. We pray that there is no loss of life and property, action will be taken against the culprits. People are requested to cooperate with the administration.” (ANI)
