Amritsar (Punjab) [India], October 21 (ANI): Punjab Border Security Force (BSF) and the state police arrested one person for allegedly trying to smuggle narcotics near the border area of Amritsar, a statement by BSF said on Monday.
The BSF seized 530 grams of suspected heroin and one broken mobile phone worth Rs 750 from the accused.
“Acting on the information developed and shared by BSF intelligence wing about a smuggling activity at the border area of district Amritsar, BSF placed a joint ambush in collaboration with Punjab Police in the suspected area,” read a statement by BSF.
The alleged smuggler was subsequently interrogated by the local police to find out whether there were any links with Pakistan-based narco-smugglers.
“The smuggler, presently, is in the custody of local Police and a detailed questioning is being carried out to find his linkages with Pak-based narco-smugglers,” the statement added.
“This significant apprehension of narco-smugglers with the recovery of heroin consignment demonstrates the professional competence and unflinching dedication of the BSF troops and Punjab Police who are committed to securing the nation’s border and combating the cross border smuggling activities,” the statement added.
The accused, a resident of Kaholi village in the Amritsar district was chased and caught by the ambush party around 2:10 PM on Monday.
