Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 30 (ANI): Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajiv Shukla expressed his thoughts on team India’s loss to Australia in the boxing-day Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on Monday.
Australia clinched a 184-run victory over India at the Melbourne Test and took a 2-1 lead in the series, ending India’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord’s early next year.
“Today’s result is disappointing. We were hopeful that we would win the Boxing Day Test match. Our bowlers performed well but the batting lineup did not perform that well. The controversial decision of giving Yashasvi Jaiswal out when he was not out. Now, we are preparing for the Sydney match. The technical committee of the ICC should look into this and find a solution. When the decision of the ground empire is changed there have to be very strong reasons to do so. Now, we should look at the Sydney Test. The players should not be judged based on one or two series but on their overall performance,” Rajiv Shukla said while speaking to ANI.
Earlier in the day, Shukla said that he feels Yashasvi Jaiswal was “clearly” not out on Day 5 of the fourth Test of the BGT series against Australia in Melbourne.
Shukla took to X and stated that the young southpaw was clearly not out. According to him, the third umpire should have had solid reasons to overturn the decision.
“Yashaswi Jaiswal was clearly not out. The third umpire should have taken note of what technology was suggesting. While over-ruling field umpires third umpire should have solid reasons,” Shukla wrote on X.

Australia gave a target of 340 runs to India at the start of Day 05 of the Melbourne Test. The visitors had the whole day in hand but couldn’t make the best out of it. The fiery spells from the Aussie bowling attack bundled out India at 155 in the 80th over.
Pat Cummins was named the ‘Player of the Match’ following a stupendous performance with both bat and ball. (ANI)
