South 24 Parganas (West Bengal) [India], August 25 (ANI): The Bengali television industry held a protest march from Tollygunge to Deshapriya Park on Sunday, demanding justice for the victim of the RG Kar rape and murder case.
People from every department of the television industry participated in the march.
A protester told ANI, “We are protesting against the incident at RG Kar. Television professionals, including artists, technicians, and all staff members, are united in demanding justice for the woman. We don’t want to hear anything else; we just want justice.”
Local women also held a protest on Sunday, demanding justice in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case in Bhangore, South 24 Parganas.
Additionally, the Indian Secular Front (ISF) staged a protest in Bhangore, demanding justice for the victim.
In Kolkata, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers protested at Shyambazar against the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case.
Earlier today, CBI officials conducted a polygraph test on the arrested accused, Sanjay Roy, in connection with the Kolkata woman trainee doctor rape and murder case.
In a related development, Parimal Dey, a teacher from Alipurduar in West Bengal, who was honoured with the Banga Ratna award by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2019, has decided to return the award in protest against the state government’s response to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder incident.
Speaking to ANI about his decision, Parimal Dey said, “I have decided to return the Banga Ratna award. In light of the protests in Bengal and beyond, my conscience compels me to give it back. I support the protest. The way Mamata Banerjee is running the administration is not right.”
Earlier today, the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists’ Forum staged a protest in Tollygunge, demanding justice for the victim in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder incident and urging the Kolkata administration to take responsibility.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ordered that security at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital be handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) while hearing the suo motu case concerning the rape and murder of the trainee doctor.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. (ANI)
