New Delhi [India], January 8 (ANI): With the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, 2025, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Delhi in-charge Qazi Nizamuddin expressed confidence in Congress’s appeal to voters, emphasising that the party’s campaign will focus on key issues impacting the people.
Nizamuddin stressed that Congress only makes those promises that it has already implemented successfully in the states under its governance.
“Congress only announces what we have already implemented in Congress-ruled states. We don’t make empty promises,” he said.
Nizamuddin said that the key priorities for the Congress party are cleaning the Yamuna, ensuring women’s safety, eliminating corruption, and combating unemployment, issues that he claims have been neglected under the current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
“The people of Delhi are going to vote on 5th February for a cleaner Yamuna, for women’s safety, for freedom from corruption, and for jobs. Elections are fought on perception in Delhi, and the people of Delhi have seen a lot in the last 10 years,” Nizamuddin stated, referring to the decade-long rule of AAP.
He criticised the current government for its failures in these areas and positioned Congress as the party capable of delivering real change.

Congress leader Harish Rawat also spoke to ANI on the forthcoming polls in Delhi and said, “A very good situation is developing for Congress in Delhi. People want to find the old era of development. Delhi has stagnated in terms of development. This election will be an election to bring back the era of Sheila Dikshit.”
The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for polls to the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
The elections will be held in a single phase on February 5, while the counting of votes will take place on February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. While last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.
The BJP has accused the AAP leaders of corruption and misgovernance while the AAP, which is aiming to come to power for the third consecutive time, is focusing on highlighting its achievements in the education and health sector.
In the race for the New Delhi seat, the BJP has fielded Parvesh Verma, former MP and son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, to challenge Arvind Kejriwal. The Congress has also entered the fray with Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, from the same seat.
The BJP has fielded former MP Ramesh Bidhuri against Delhi CM Atishi in the Kalkaji seat while the Congress has fielded former MLA Alka Lamba.
The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got only eight seats. (ANI)
