New Delhi [India], August 27 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha on Tuesday vowed to fight out after she walked out of Tihar jail following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant her bail in irregularities in the ‘excise policy case’ by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
“We are fighters, we will fight it out legally and politically. They have only made the BRS and KCR’s team unbreakable,” BRS leader K Kavitha said after walking out of jail.
“All I have to say is that law will prevail, law will take its course. The whole country knows this was a faulty case”, she added
Addressing the party workers outside Tihar Jail, she said, “I want to thank all of you. I became emotional after meeting my son, brother and husband today after almost 5 months. Only politics is responsible for this situation. The country knows that I was put in jail only because of politics, I did not make any mistake I will fight.”
Earlier today, a bench of justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan directed to release K Kavitha immediately.
The top court also imposed various conditions against Kavitha, including not to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses in the matter. The top court directed her to furnish a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh each in both CBI and ED cases.
The top court also directed her to surrender her passport. The top court noted that Kavitha is behind bars for five months and the trial will take a long time to complete as there are 493 witnesses and many documents. The SC noted that the reliance is on the statements of the co-accused, who have been granted pardon and made an approver.
Reacting to this, BRS Working President, MLA and Kavitha’s brother Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao wrote on X, “Thank You Supreme Court. Relieved. Justice prevailed”.
Meanwhile, K Kavitha’s bail sparked a war of words among Telangana political leaders with both the BJP and Congress accusing each other of BRS nexus.
While the Congress claimed that this shows the nexus between the BJP and BRS, BJP retaliated by saying that this bail is a win for both BRS and Congress.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and BJP National General Secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar, taking to X, reacted on Kavitha’s bail and wrote, “Congratulations to the Congress party and its advocates for securing bail for BRS MLC in the infamous liquor scam. Your untiring efforts finally yielded fruits. This bail is a win for both BRS and Congress. –BRS leader is out on bail, & the Congressman gets to Rajya Sabha. Remarkable political acumen by KCR in supporting the candidate, who initially argued for the bail, to be nominated to Rajya Sabha unopposed by the ruling Congress. Congratulations to the partners in crime who wine & dine”.
Criticising the comments made by Bandi Sanjay, BRS Working President KTR stated that the Supreme Court should take cognisance of these comments. KTR wrote on X, “You’re a union minister incharge of Home Affairs & casting aspersions on Supreme Court!! Highly unbecoming of your position, I respectfully urge the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India & the respected Supreme Court to take cognisance of these comments and initiate contempt proceedings.”
However, the Congress was not far behind. TPCC Working President Mahesh Kumar Goud also reacted to Kavitha’s bail and said, “Kavitha getting bail today indicates the clear nexus between BJP and BRS. We have been saying that BRS and BJP party are in close nexus for the last ten years. Now it got exposed. On what conditions Kavitha got bail today when compared to the conditions when bail was rejected, clearly indicates that BJP’s pressure is there for Kavitha getting bail now. We can clearly say that the merger of BRS party with BJP party started today. The process of merger started today when Kavitha got bail. The people of Telangana should understand that the nexus between BJP and BRS is exposed today and Congress is ready to face both parties.”
Earlier today, the top court directed her to furnish a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh each in both CBI and ED cases. The top court also directed her to surrender her passport. The top court noted that Kavitha is behind bars for five months and the trial will take a long time to complete as there are 493 witnesses and many documents.
On July 1 the Delhi High Court dismissed the bail petitions moved by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha in CBI and ED cases related to the Excise Policy case.
Recently, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a supplementary prosecution complaint (chargesheet) in the Excise Policy money laundering case in Rouse Avenue Court.
The chargesheet was filed against BRS Leader K Kavitha and other accused namely Chanpreet Singh, Damodar, Prince Singh and Arvind Kumar.BRS leader K Kavitha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 15, 2024 and by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on April 11, 2024. Subsequently, she was also later arrested by CBI in the matter.
CBI inquiry was recommended based on the findings of the Delhi Chief Secretary’s report filed in July showing prima facie violations of the GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR)-1993, Delhi Excise Act-2009, and Delhi Excise Rules-2010, officials said.
The ED and the CBI had alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, the licence fee was waived or reduced and the L-1 licence was extended without the competent authority’s approval. (ANI)
