New Delhi [India], August 25 (ANI): In the second round of allocations for the 2024-25 academic session, the University of Delhi (DU) on Sunday allocated 24,869 seats across various undergraduate programmes.
This follows a significant first round where 65,775 students confirmed their admissions.
Despite only 6,100 seats remaining out of the total 71,600 sanctioned seats, the University has allocated a higher number of seats, anticipating that many students may not accept their allocated spots.
“In the first round, we observed that around 35,000 students did not accept their allocated seats. Considering this trend, we’re allocating more seats in the second round to ensure all seats are optimally filled and we can commence classes on August 29,” DU Dean of Admission Haneet Gandhi told ANI.
Out of 43,067 candidates who opted for upgrades, as many as 27,554 have been allocated higher preference seats.
In this round, DU also made special provisions to reconsider candidates who were rejected in the first round due to invalid certificates or documents.
These candidates were re-evaluated under the unreserved (UR) category based on their merit and preferences, depending on seat availability.
To streamline the admission process, DU has enhanced its system to automatically activate the allocation of upgraded seats, allowing colleges to process these admissions directly.
This move is expected to reduce grievances from students who previously faced issues when they missed taking action on upgraded seats.
Students allocated seats in the second round must confirm their acceptance by 4:59 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, and pay the required fees by 4:59 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024.
Those who wish to be considered for further upgrades must complete their payment within the stipulated time.
The third round of allocations, which will cover performance-based programmes and supernumerary quotas, including CW, ECA, Sports, and Ward categories, will be announced soon. (ANI)
