Panaji (Goa) [India], September 26 (ANI): Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday paid tribute to Dr TB Cunha, popularly known as the ‘Father of Goan nationalism’, on his death anniversary and said that his contribution to the Goa freedom struggle movement will always be remembered.
The Goa Chief Minister paid his respects by laying flower wreaths on the late freedom fighter’s memorial here on Thursday.

“TB Cunha is known as the ‘Goan Father of the Nation’. On the occasion of his death anniversary today, we paid tribute to him on behalf of the government. I remember all the freedom fighters of Goa, including Dr TB Cunha and his contribution to the Goa freedom struggle moment will always be remembered,” CM Sawant told ANI.
He is popularly known as the “Father of Goan nationalism” and was the organiser of the first movement to end Portuguese rule in Goa.
Last week, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the Goa University Research Park Unit (GURU) initiative under the UniGoa Knowledge and Innovation Foundation and distributed the sanction letters to teams under the Hand Holding and Start-Up Scheme 2023-24.
He further said that the initiative symbolises the knowledge and mentorship that will propel Goa’s advancement in biotechnology, healthcare, information technology, and electronics innovation.
“The GURU initiative, with an investment of Rs 12.85 crore, has established state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to support young innovators. It stands as a symbol of the knowledge and mentorship that will propel Goa’s advancement in biotechnology, healthcare, information technology, and electronics innovation,” he said.
CM Sawant further expressed his confidence in the GURU initiative and stated that it would play a pivotal role in nurturing young innovators and incubating start-ups in bio-engineering, agriculture, healthcare, and electronics, contributing significantly to society.
He also congratulated Goa University and the Directorate of Higher Education for this remarkable initiative and extended his best wishes for a bright and successful future. (ANI)
