Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 6 (ANI): Heavy rain here has triggered waterlogging in several parts of the city on Friday.
Visuals emerged showing heavy traffic at the Nampally road in Hyderabad.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a yellow alert over the state from September 6 to September 9.
As per the forecast, the state may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds on Saturday.
On September 8, the state is most likely to experience rain in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar, Mulugu among other places. Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds at the speed of 30 to 40 km per hour can be expected.
As per the forecast, the state is likely to receive very heavy rain at isolated places on Sunday 9.
On September 2, the water level of the Munneru River increased in Khammam’s Prakash Nagar in Telangana.
The Congress MP from Khammam, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, said that the floods have caused damage to houses and the people have been rescued.
“It’s not raining now…But due to the flood, houses have been damaged…People have been rescued…Food relief has been provided…Rehabilitation work is also underway…” said the Congress MP.
Khammam District Collector Muzammil Khan has described the floods as “unprecedented” and one that was not witnessed in the region for the last 30 years.
“We are experiencing severe floods in our district, unlike in the past 30 years, because of the 200mm rains. I appreciate all the work taken up by the officials, public representatives, and others over the past 2 days. We could save many lives because of this,” said Muzammil Khan while speaking to ANI.
“Now, we are going forward with making the required necessities and rehabilitation centres. We will also focus on health camps, the availability of food grains, and elderly and handicapped people. All the people should be alert. We have faced unprecedented floods and many problems with it. I assure you that all the necessities will be provided by the government,” Muzammil Khan added. (ANI)
