New Delhi [India], January 3 (ANI): After handing over the keys to the beneficiaries of newly constructed flats under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project at Swabhiman Apartments in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the residents.
Expressing his feelings on the occasion, PM Modi said it gave him “immense satisfaction” to see how the project has positively impacted the lives of the beneficiaries.
“Swabhimaan Apartments has given a new height to the dreams of my poor brothers and sisters in Delhi. It has also provided a new inspiration for the children here to move forward in life. Talking to them has given me immense satisfaction,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, with many saying that PM Modi fulfilled their ‘dreams’.
During the interaction, PM Modi asked the beneficiaries, “Did you get the keys to the house?”
One of the beneficiaries responded, saying, “She is thankful that because of him she got the house. We never dreamed of this, but you fulfilled our dreams.”
PM Modi responded, “I am glad because I don’t have my house, but you got the house.”

Another beneficiary replied to the PM, saying, “They are our home and family.”
PM Modi also interacted with a child and asked what she was going to do in the new house. The child replied, “I will study in the house. I want to become a teacher.”

The Prime Minister further encouraged people to tell everyone that PM Modi came here and “Modi ji ki guarantee is with everyone. We have taken a pledge to provide a house to the poor people.”
Earlier in the day, PM Modi handed over the keys to beneficiaries of newly constructed flats for the dwellers of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project at Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar. The objective of the project was to provide the residents of the JJ clusters in Delhi with a better and healthier living environment equipped with proper amenities and facilities, according to a release. For every Rs 25 lakh spent on the construction of a flat by the government, eligible beneficiaries pay less than 7 per cent of the total amount, comprising Rs 1.42 lakh as a nominal contribution and Rs 30,000 for five years of maintenance.
A beneficiary, Sheela Bai, expressed her gratitude, saying, “PM Modi has sent us to heaven from hell. We could never have imagined this future. Our dream has been fulfilled today.”
Another beneficiary, Manzoor Shah, shared, “I got a home. I am very happy and content. The future of our children is also secured… The house is very good… PM Modi asked me if my children are getting educated. I replied that they are too young to go to school.”
A beneficiary, Amina Begum, said, “I am very happy. The house is also very good.”
PM Modi also inspected the newly constructed flats for the residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters under the project.

“The entire country is engaged towards the making of Viksit Bharat today,” said PM Modi. He added, “We are working with a resolution to ensure that every citizen of India would have a pucca house in developed India. Delhi has a major role in the accomplishment of this resolution.”
Highlighting the government’s commitment, the Prime Minister noted that in the last 10 years, his government has fulfilled the dreams of over 4 crore people in owning a pucca house.
PM Modi also announced the construction of nearly 3000 new houses in Delhi, adding that thousands more would be made available to the city’s residents in the coming year.
“A large number of government employees live in these areas, and the houses they occupied were quite old. The construction of new, modern housing will provide them with improved living standards, reflecting our commitment to their well-being,” he said.
Outlining the significant strides taken in the housing sector, the Prime Minister mentioned the successful implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), under which over 1 crore homes have been constructed across the country in the last decade.
“In the last 10 years, over 30,000 new homes have been built in Delhi under this scheme. We are now expanding this effort, and in the next phase, one crore more homes will be constructed for urban poor families across the country,” he added.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the financial assistance provided to middle-class families, including large subsidies on home loan interest rates for those earning under Rs 9 lakh annually he affirmed.
“Our government is ensuring that every family, whether poor or middle-class, has the opportunity to own a good home,” he added.
In addition, PM Modi virtually inaugurated urban redevelopment projects – the World Trade Centre at Nauroji Nagar and GPRA Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar, CBSE’s Integrated Office Complex at Dwarka, and laid the foundation stone of Veer Savarkar College at Roshanpura, Najafgarh. (ANI)
