New Delhi [India] August 21 (ANI): Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) on Wednesday appealed to lawyers to wear black ribbons on their arms tomorrow as a symbol of protest against the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
Condemning the heinous crime, the Bar Council appealed to the central government for swift investigation and capital punishment for the perpetrators. It also urged for stringent measures to prevent such crimes in the future.
The Council has asked Bar Associations to help spread the word to ensure a coordinated and respectful observance of the protest day.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) members are wearing a white ribbon band on Wednesday as a mark of protest and to pay homage and respect to the victim and her family.
The DHCBA has also condemned the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. In an emergent meeting on Tuesday, the Executive Committee of DHCBA unanimously called for stringent action against the perpetrators and urged both central and state governments to implement measures to prevent such incidents and enhance women’s security. Additionally, they resolved to provide pro-bono legal assistance to the victim’s family to ensure justice.
The rape and murder of the second-year PG graduate at the seminar hall of the college on the night of August 9 has sparked major outrage nationwide.
The apex court on Tuesday constituted a 10-member National Task Force to make recommendations on the prevention of violence and safe working conditions for medical professionals.
The top court also directed all social media platforms and electronic media to remove the name of the deceased, her photographs, and video clips forthwith.
A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud also comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra noted that the identity of the victim was published on various platforms. The top court said that it is constrained to issue an injunctive order since social and electronic media have proceeded to publish the identity of the deceased and photographs of her dead body.
