Faridabad (Haryana) [India], September 16 (ANI): Ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, the Faridabad administration is making all necessary preparations, with polling booths set to be established in both higher-end societies and slum areas to ensure accessible voting for all.
Deputy Commissioner of Faridabad, Vikram Yadav, shared the details on Monday, stating, “Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on 5th October in Haryana and Faridabad, and we have made all the necessary preparations. Faridabad has six constituencies, with approximately 1.77 million voters. We have 1,650 polling booths, an increase of 181 from last time.”
“In line with the Election Commission’s guidelines, booths will be placed in higher societies and slum areas to make voting more accessible and convenient for the public. We have completed all the necessary arrangements,” he added.
A total of 1,561 candidates have filed their nominations for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, which are set for October 5. Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer, Pankaj Agarwal, said on Friday that 1,561 candidates from various political parties, as well as independents, have filed 1,747 nomination papers, all of which have been scrutinised.
Agarwal added that candidates can withdraw their nominations until September 16. After this date, the final list of candidates for the state’s 90 assembly constituencies will be published, and election symbols will be allotted by the respective returning officers on the same day.
In the 2014 Haryana Assembly elections, 1,351 candidates contested, while in the 2019 elections, the number was 961. According to the release, the Bhiwani Assembly constituency has the highest number of candidates at 31, while Nangal Chaudhary has the fewest, with just nine.
Voting for Haryana’s 90-member legislative assembly will take place on October 5, with the counting of votes scheduled for October 8, alongside the vote count in Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
