Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 25 (ANI): Speaking on the matter of BJP MLAs demanding discussion on the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scams in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti said on Wednesday that this is not a matter worth discussion.
Horatti said that the BJP had sent an adjournment motion regarding MUDA and he tried to explain to them that it was not a regular matter and because of this, he couldn’t accept the motion and give permission to the opposition party.
“They (BJP) have sent an adjournment motion regarding MUDA. I tried to explain to them that this is not a regular matter. Regular matter means if the government has failed in its duty–riots, floods, all these problems–then only I can accept the motion and permit the opposition party. But this is not a regular matter,” he said.
He further added that this happened 3-4 years ago and now it has come to the media.
“This happened 3-4 years ago. Now it has come in the media. According to me, this is not a matter worth discussing. Yesterday they gave a letter to reconsider. So I am reconsidering it.,” he said.
Horatti also said that he will be meeting the Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of the House again today to further discuss the matter.
“I am trying to see all the rules and regulations. Today I will call the Leader of Opposition and the Leader of the House again. I will discuss it with both sides and try to convince them,” he stated.
The BJP MLAs, including Leader of Opposition R Ashok and BJP Karnataka President BY Vijayendra, slept inside the assembly on Wednesday night in a protest and demanding discussion on the alleged MUDA scam.
BJP Karnataka president BY Vijayendra accused the speaker of adopting a partisan role and not permitting the opposition to make its point on the alleged MUDA scam.
“You are suppressing the right to freedom of expression by not allowing us to fight against your wrongdoings democratically. You are oppressing the constitutional right by standing against the voice of the people brought forth by the opposition party in both houses of the temple of democracy. A partisan speaker dancing to your tune is a black spot in the legislative system,” he said in a statement on X.
The scam revolves around MUDA allegedly cheating by creating fake documents and obtaining plots worth crores of rupees. (ANI)
