Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 13 (ANI): Calling the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique a most “unfortunate incident”, BJP leader and advocate Ujjwal Nikam said on Sunday that there is no failure from police and the administration side as police had already given protection to him after he was given threat by unknown people.
“It’s a really most unfortunate incident which had occurred in Mumbai last night. The prime question is why the murder had occurred, and who had committed it. No doubt two suspects were apprehended by the mob at the spot and I learned that the third assailant ran away from the spot. But since it appears that some 10 to 15 days earlier Baba Siddiqui was given threats and therefore police had given protection to him, now I don’t know whether those threats have some connection with yesterday’s incident or not. The main objective behind giving threats was just to show the supremacy of that particular person who had held the threats to Baba Siddiqui,” BJP leader Nikam told ANI.
The BJP leader further asserted that Baba Siddique’s nature was very loving, adding that he used to call people from all communities in iftaar party.
“I don’t think that there is any failure of the state machines because the police had already given protection to him and special security were also deployed. That is what I learned from the newspaper,” Ujjwal Nikam said further.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police has registered a case in connection to the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act.
The case has been registered at Nirmal Nagar Police Station under Crime Registration No. 589/2024, Sections 103(1), 109, 125, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3, 25, 5, and 27 of the Arms Act, and Section 37 and section 137 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and leader in Ajit Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was shot near Nirmal Nagar in Bandra. He later succumbed to his bullet injuries at Lilavati Hospital late Saturday night. (ANI)
