Washington [US], November 12 (ANI): US President-elect Donald Trump has picked South Dakota Republican Governor Kristi Noem as his Department of Homeland Security (DHS), chief as per reports in several news outlets on Tuesday.
Noem,52, who in her biography described killing a dog that was “untrainable” was in the initial stages of Trump’s campaign considered as his running mate.
In her book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward,” she revealed that she once killed her 14-month-old wirehair pointer, Cricket, when she was not displaying the signs of an ideal hunting dog. The governor wrote that the dog was “untrainable,” CNN reported.
The Hill reported that the Republican governor will be tapped to lead the agency tasked with protecting the US from terror threats, securing the borders and enforcing US immigration law.
The news daily said that Trump has also tasked DHS with carrying out the “largest deportation operation in American history.”
DHS contains several key public safety agencies. Beyond its immigration duties, it also contains the Secret Service, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It also contains the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) which is tasked with helping companies prevent cyber attacks as well as attacks on physical infrastructure.
CNN had earlier reported citing sources that Trump is expected to announce in the coming days that Stephen Miller, his top immigration adviser, as the White House deputy chief of staff for policy.
The US broadcaster also cited Trump’s announcement on Truth Social social network that the former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be “The Border Czar” in charge of in charge of the country’s borders.
Trump during his presidential campaign against his Democratic rival Kamala Harris had said that he would run the largest deportation programme in the history of the United States and vowed to deport all illegal immigrants.
The president-elect in his social media post said that there’s “nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders” and that Homan “will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin.” (ANI)
