Guwahati (Assam) [India], March 17 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday expressed gratitude for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent three-day visit to the state, during which he inaugurated a new state police training academy and discussed the implementation of three new criminal laws.
CM Sarma highlighted the significance of these reforms, emphasising their role in strengthening the criminal justice system while ensuring the protection of marginalized communities. He also acknowledged Shah’s dedication to the state, particularly his engagement with the Bodo community.
“Union Home Minister Amit Shah concluded his three day visit to Assam during which he dedicated a new state police training academy, interacted with our Bodo community and lent us his valuable insights on implementing the three new criminal laws. We are extremely grateful for his commitment towards the welfare of Assam,” CM Sarma wrote in a post on X.

Sarma also shared details of his participation in a conference with colleagues from the Northeastern states, focusing on the successful implementation of these new laws. He emphasized that the laws, namely BNS, BNSS, and BNA, represent a significant reform under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
“Today, under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, I joined my colleagues from North Eastern States in a conference that aims to ensure robust implementation of the three new criminal laws. BNS, BNSS and BNA is a watershed reform ushered by the government led by Prime Minister Modi. Indian ethos are at the heart of these new laws which are rooted in modern techniques, protects the rights of the marginalised and strike at the core of heinous offences,” Sarma wrote in another post on X.

“Today’s deliberations will help Assam implement these laws in letter and spirit. We are committed to building a criminal justice system that rests upon impartiality, efficiency and efficacy,” he added.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Assam on March 14 for a three-day visit. During his visit, he inaugurated and attended several programmes. On the morning of March 15, he inaugurated the new buildings of the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Assam. He also visited Aizawl and attended several programmes.
On March 16, the Union Home Minister visited Kokrajhar to address the 57th Annual Conference of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) at the Bodofa Cultural Complex in Dotma. He later returned to Guwahati to chair a review meeting on the implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the Northeastern states. (ANI)
